The ideal place for this purpose is the "Aušras" museum, which presents the history of Šiauliai from the appearance of the first inhabitants in these lands to the declaration of the independent Republic of Lithuania in 1918.
The wonderful guide who took care of our group told us about the most important events that shaped the city of Šiauliai, about its inhabitants, household, everyday life, businesses, and the military.
We watched a documentary film about the victorious Battle of the Sun that took place in the land of Šiauliai, we learned what this city was like in the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Republic of the Two Peoples, and the Tsarist Russian Empire.
The images of the destroyed Šiauliai captured in the photos during the First World War moved me, and my thoughts took me painfully to my native Ukraine...
It was interesting to sit on the benches of the pre-war school remembering old stories, to think about the similarities, differences and the fragility of being in the culture, education, history of different nations.
